FAQs

process

my pencil drawings comprise of many detailed lines, drawn by hand, to create a duality of effects- one from up close and another from afar.

my sculptures are experimental in nature and as such my methods change according to the line of exploration, which is usually per series.

themes that i usually draw inspiration from often include:

nature and landscape

colour

texture

dreams

spirituality and symbolism

pricing

my artworks are priced according to hours spent on its production.

artists typically receive most $ when artworks are purchased directly through them, as there is no third party to take a portion of commission. which is why my preferred method of transaction is direct message (dm) and bank transfer.

the pricing of artwork is noted within the instagram image caption and is available for purchase unless otherwise noted as ~sold~.

lighting

photos of my artworks are taken without a filter, at all times. lighting makes a huge difference to the overall look of a drawing, and i take my photos very intentionally to best illustrate the “true” colour.

this should be considered when placing an artwork for display. It can sometimes take a few goes before finding the perfect combination of light, colour, texture, objects, etc. in your space.

framing

framing can be expensive but is a worthy investment. When I am organising framing for pieces, I opt for high spec finishes such as…

UV art glass makes a huge difference especially in reducing the amount of reflection. this will affect the overall sense of vibrancy and legibility of a piece, especially ones with greater detail (such as pencil line drawings).

floating the paper is preferred with pieces that have raw, exposed, feathered edges (most of my original drawings do). this finish is a part of the overall intention of the piece, and floating the paper enhances the edges rather than hiding them under a matboard.

commissions

commissions typically trail the framework of the following process:

 1.     a customer DMs or emails an enquiry with a reference to previous mkticks work, general colours or shapes. they should know what size they are after and provide any other relevant information including ideal timeline and price. clear communication of the intended outcome is crucial to ensuring your expectations are met.

2.     i will communicate whether this scope is achievable and for what $.

3.     the customer will confirm this is ok or not.

4.     if ok, I will provide a basic sketch indicating the design, main colours and shapes.

5.     the customer will approve me to proceed with the artwork.

6.     i will send an invoice for 100% of the artwork to the customer.

7.     i commence the commissioned piece. commissions are unique to the individual request and therefore cannot be refunded or cancelled. this is why all communication prior to payment is absolutely crucial to ensure we are on the same page and expectations are consistent with outcomes (hopefully exceeded!)
